Statement on Packaging Sourcing and Environmental Impact Assessment

Company: Atenai London
Subject: Environmental Rationale and Impact Mitigation for Overseas Packaging Sourcing

Atenai London is committed to transparency and rigorous environmental responsibility across all operational decisions. This statement addresses our rationale for partnering with manufacturing facilities in China for our packaging production, supported by a three-pillar Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) evaluating raw materials, manufacturing practices, and circular design principles.

1. Rationale for Sourcing and Materials Selection

To achieve our environmental and aesthetic targets, Atenai London selected specialized primary packaging suppliers capable of delivering advanced 30% Post-Consumer Recycled (PCR) plastic bottles alongside fully recyclable paperboard outer boxes.

While localized sourcing is prioritized where feasible, Chinese manufacturing facilities currently lead the global market in supplying high-grade PCR resin integration at scale without compromising structural integrity or clean-beauty product stability. This sourcing choice allowed Atenai London to balance material circularity with high-volume production efficiency.

2. Top Three Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs)

Assessment 1: Raw Material Extraction & Resource Depletion

Impact Evaluation: Relying on 100% virgin fossil-fuel-based plastics significantly increases carbon intensity and non-renewable resource depletion.

Environmental Mitigation: By mandating a 30% PCR plastic content in our bottles, Atenai London actively diverts post-consumer plastic waste from oceans and landfills, reducing our reliance on virgin petroleum inputs and lowering the initial carbon footprint of raw material extraction by up to 25%. We tried to increase this percentage to a higher number but unfortunately and at this stage the results were not satisfactory for consumer usage, we will keep our goal of increasing this percentage to a higher level as soon as possible.

Assessment 2: Manufacturing & Process Emissions

Impact Evaluation: Industrial production and conversion processes generate substantial Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions, particularly in regions dependent on coal-heavy energy grids.

Environmental Mitigation: We partner exclusively with accredited manufacturing facilities operating under verified environmental management systems (ISO 14001). Production processes utilize closed-loop water systems and energy-efficient moulding technologies to minimize manufacturing emissions per unit produced.

Assessment 3: Freight Transport & Logistics Emissions

Impact Evaluation: Sourcing packaging internationally introduces long-distance transport emissions (Scope 3), primarily associated with maritime and freight logistics from Asia to Europe.

Environmental Mitigation: To mitigate transit emissions, Atenai London utilizes bulk maritime shipping over high-carbon air freight. Furthermore, our outer boxes and secondary packaging are designed for flat-pack efficiency, maximizing volume density per container and drastically lowering the net carbon emissions per unit shipped. We are also using one manufacturer instead of 2 or 3 which also would impact transportation emissions.

3. End-of-Life & Box Recycling Framework

Atenai London treats end-of-life recyclability as a primary design criterion:

30% PCR Bottles: Designed to re-enter existing municipal PET/HDPE recycling streams, enabling a closed-loop cycle for plastic materials.

Secondary Outer Boxes: Manufactured from sustainably sourced, FSC-certified paperboard using non-toxic inks. All outer boxes are 100% kerbside recyclable, eliminating complex laminates or multi-material barriers that impede standard recycling facilities.

Through continuous supply chain audits and material innovations, Atenai London remains committed to reducing the environmental footprint of our packaging while maintaining product safety and luxury standards.
